I saw this in a comment at religious Dispatches: Wisconsin law criminalizes resident gay couples who get married together in another state.
Here's teh statute:
"765.30 Penalties. (1) The following may be fined not more than $10,000 or imprisoned for not more than 9 months or both:
(a) Penalty for marriage outside the state to circumvent the laws. Any person residing and intending to continue to reside in this state who goes outside the state and there contracts a marriage prohibited or declared void under the laws of this state."
(Marriage between same sex couples is illegal in WI).

I suspect the law has been around for a while. I wonder if it was aimed at first cousin marriages (if the woman was under 55 and able to procreate) since interracial marriages were never illegal in Wisconsin? Or was it aimed at epileptics wanting to get married (illegal from 1907-1955).
